Young Life and Family
Diana Frances Spencer was born in Sandringham in Norfolk, England at Park House on July 1st, 1961. The youngest daughter of Edward John Spencer, Viscount Althorp and his first wife Frances Spencer, Viscount Althorp, she was the fourth child born to her parents, with older sisters Sarah and Jane, and later her younger brother Charles who would inherit all the Spencer titles and estate. Diana`s parents were divorced when she was only 8 and the children all remained with their father.
The Spencers had been close to the British royal family for centuries, having risen in royal favour during the 1600s. Diana grew up in Park House, practically next door to the Queen`s Royal Sandringham Estate. The Spencer children were therefore no strangers to the Princes, Prince Andrew was her childhood playmate and Charles would even date her older sister Sarah.
Diana would re-acquaint herself with Charles in 1980, meeting him when she visited her sister Sarah who`s husband worked for the Queen. They would start dating shortly after and marry six months later. Her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry were born in 1982 and 1984 respectively. After a very publicized separation Charles and Diana were divorced in 1996.
At a tribute concert held in her honour by her sons in 2007 a video of her early life was played to the song of "These are the Days of our Lives" by Queen.
